A few days ago I was gifted an energy healing session from a woman I follow on Instagram. It was a no-strings-attached offering of the specific modality that she practices, called Body Code. Having not ever heard of Body Code before and not really knowing at all what to expect, I went into the experience with an open mind and an open heart. I was grateful that I had won her free giveaway and I was open to receiving whatever was on offer.
I have been blessed enough to receive an abundance of healing work in my life. I have experienced various somatic modalities, reiki, chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, channeled energy healing sessions, tarot & astrology readings, body work, shamanic drumming sessions, Internal Family Systems work, ancestral healing sessions, and extensive plant medicine ceremonies of every variety…to name but a few. In the realm of energy work – you name it, I’ve probably experienced it.
So at this point in my journey I always enter these sorts of containers with a balanced level of not skepticism, per se, but realistic and grounded expectations. Meaning, when I am working with someone new, the first session is usually one of testing the waters, feeling into the practitioner’s energy, and seeing how they work. I would never partake in a session like this unless I had felt some initial sense of trust and safety. I am at a place in my life where I trust that my intuition guides me to experiences that I’m meant to have and so I enter into healing work from that place.
Given this, I felt as though I was clearly meant to receive this session from this woman, who was someone I had been following for a few months and had developed a casual online friendship with.
A little backstory about Body Code…this modality is a newer method that was created in the early 2000’s by Dr. Bradley Nelson. The practice involves the use of muscle testing or tapping to communicate with the subconscious mind to identify and correct energy imbalances in the body. These sessions help to uncover trapped emotions, nutritional or mineral deficiencies, structural misalignments or hidden energy imbalances.
Transparently, I am typically highly skeptical of trendy, flavor-of-the-week practices that feel a little bit like the sugar-pop of the healing world. Granted, I have a high standard for professionals who work in the healing realm. Having participated in extensive plant medicine work in various communities over the past decade, I have received deep transformation in my life from these experiences. I have had the immense privilege of engaging with practitioners of the highest integrity, in clean and boundaried energetic containers, held by leaders who have done their own healing work.
So sharing about my positive experience with Body Code – a therapeutic method that has been around for less than thirty years and comes with an accompanying app– is a little surprising to me.
But I’m here for the healing. And when something works, it works.
Without going into too much unnecessary detail, the structure of the session is first to invite in the presence of a higher power. The practitioner then proceeds to internally ask a series of questions to find the first blockage. Many questions and inquiries are made about each subsequent blockage that arises, and the process is essentially a method of digging deeper and deeper into a specific issue to find out where it came from and what continues to drive it. The session ends with a gradual clearing of all these blockages, which can look like holding the intention of letting something go, or reprogramming an old thought pattern with a new supportive one.
The big blockages that came up for me in my session were around my current state of health, which was no surprise, as that is what is in my present awareness and experience. Some of the health issues that came up were thyroid misalignment, right hip issues, excess fat cells in the body, stagnation in the digestive system, stress hormones, and chronic overwhelm – again, all things I am currently dealing with. Through teasing all of that apart and learning about the source of those issues, various emotional blockages were uncovered. A lot of dark and disempowered energy was revealed, having been passed down to me ancestrally as well as imprinted upon me in the womb and in early childhood.
None of what came up was unknown to me. I wasn’t shocked by any of it. I have an intimate relationship with my past traumas and a robust and intuitive understanding of how they have impacted me. I’m aware that trauma is stored in the body and that my current state of health is in part connected to my past experiences and what I’ve been carrying internally up until now.
So no, the information didn’t surprise me. But I was really struck by the way that all of these various pain points were reflected back at me, all at once, revealing to me their intricate web of interconnectedness.
I’ll admit that the “clearing” part of the session felt somewhat anticlimactic to me. Again, after years of deep, rich, and occasionally intense experiences with plant medicine, where sometimes the gauge of how much you “let go” of is proportionate to how much of yourself you purged into a bag, the simple and 10 second “clearing” of each blockage in Body Code felt a little too quick, too easy.
But as I said, I went into this experience with trust, and so I stayed connected to that while these clearings were taking place. I held my own intention of clear, let go, and release, while the practitioner concurrently did her own subtle energy work around clearing the blockages with me. One by one, we went through each and every blockage and sent it on its way.
The proof is always in the pudding. In the recent days since my session, I’ve experienced movement in some areas of my life that had been stagnant for months. After not singing for a better part of this year, I channeled two new songs in the following days. Additionally, I was given the opportunity to respond differently to a family conflict that arose – one in which the old me would have been extremely reactive and overwhelmed (one of the key issues that was identified in the session). Instead of reacting in my old way of being, I was able to show up grounded, with a regulated nervous system, and with the ability to stay calm in the face of a challenging situation.
Like all true healing, there is no quick fix. There is no bypassing the consistent and intentional work that is required to make big changes in one’s life. Body Code is no different – I didn’t wake up the next morning a completely new person. But I felt a palpable shift. I felt an energetic opening that has allowed me to move in the direction of my forward.
The overarching theme of my session was reunion with life-force. These words came through and were spoken to me by the practitioner, and perfectly encapsulate the themes that arose and what occurred during our time together. I remain in awe of these subtle energy shifts that ever-so-gently coaxed me toward realignment with the truth of who I am and always have been.
This session was also a reminder to me that there is so much support available. It is in the asking for help, whether literally or energetically, that we can open ourselves up to receive. The experience helped to strengthen my belief that God is always holding me, caring for me, and guiding me. It is my belief that we live in a benevolent universe in which we are always supported, and reflections of this can be found everywhere when looking through that lens.
One of my teachers used to say, “Ask for help, and the help will be forthcoming.” I have repeatedly found this to be true. And – sometimes the help comes without asking, because God knows what our hearts need better than we do.
I know that when it comes to healing, there’s not just one thing that works. And I will continue to come back to the practices that have always been reliably supportive for me. But I will always welcome new energy when it wants to come in, and I’m grateful that Body Code came into my awareness and touched me. Clearly, it was meant to be. I will carry this beautiful experience and all that it unlocked within me as I continue forward on my journey towards wholeness.
In Strength and Honesty,
Paige Michele Sargent
